<ouroboros> The Ouroboros is the beginning. The Ouroboros is never-ending. The Ouroboros is life. The Ouroboros is death. The Ouroboros is. The Ouroboros always will be. The Ouroboros is inside your walls. The Ouroboros is inside your soul. The Ouroboros is you. The Outoboros is me. The Ouroboros will never come to be. The Ouroboros is inevitable. The Ouroboros is ineffable. The Ouroboros is incredible. The Ouroboros is the end. The Ouroboros is the beginning. </ouroboros>

The physics in this game are pretty janky, so feel free to hover on the Respawn button on the top left to restore the snake's body if you get stuck in a wall or inside yourself.

To form an Ouroboros, eat your tail. To un-form it, shake your mouse.

The game has an ending.

Made this for my Fall 23 MFA Game Studio 1 class. The concept started from my desire to depict the feeling of slithering. I took heavy inspiration from Rain World (particularly Unfortunate Developments) as well as the Pokémon R/S/E Winona gym. I was also thinking about Sonny Boy at some point. I used the built-in GameMaker physics system. The snake is procedurally drawn.

Art and code and design and music and certain sound effects by me.

Other sound effects taken from freesound.org from users: lebaston100, kinoton, diamond00744, syrexshat, hyperchromatics, iainmccurdy, imataco.

I like how I can get absolutely smacked by the bouncy ball things and become all sorts of weird shapes.

The visual design is on point here and the movement, although very janky, is also very cool. Despite mice and snacks being the "reward" for some of the puzzles, being a longer Ouroboros actually just makes it harder to navigate, which is interesting. Loved the Fortree Gym throwback. Overall, a pretty polished game. I got to the end!

Thanks for the feedback! I'm happy you reached the ending B)

Incredible work! Despite the cover image

thank you..? :)

i have always wanted to be an ouroboros

careful what u wish for
